Worcester Worcester was founded in 1751 by a group of people. One being Dr. Wall after whom the first period was named. Another one was William Davis who probably exerted an even greater influence. In 1783 John Flight and his brother became owners. Martin Barr joined John after the death of his brother in 1792. Since then there were many other owners. Their early porcelain was very hard and very thin mostly decorated in underglaze blue. In 1756 overglaze decorations were introduced. The most beautiful decorations come from the Dr. Wall period especially the dark ground with colorful designs like the Kakiemon patterns. The second period of 1783 to 1840 was influenced by the Neo-classical and Empire styles. After 1850 Worcester was more of a mass producer and there was only a small percentage of fine porcelain made in the beginning of the 20th century. After 1945 they again went back to producing more of the finer porcelain for export. Worcester is still in existence today.
