Powder Blue Ground Bird Scene Cup & Saucer

This is a superb early cup and saucer made by Worcester around 1768 during their first period. A truly great looking combination of the rare powdered blue ground color, some fancy gilding as well as three hand painted fan shaped scenes of exotic birds sitting on a branch and three circular panels of insects with a pair of insects in the center of the saucer and a single one on the inside of the teabowl. The quality of the painting and gilding is top notch. An amazing set that is as good as it gets for this sort of design. The cup and saucer are both in great condition with the saucer having a touch of wear to the gilding along the edge and to a high point from a flaw along the gilded frame of one of the bird panels. All very minor and it displays perfectly. The cup also has some minor wear to the gilding along the top edge and two chips to the foot ring as shown. They don't distract from the piece at all and the set looks amazing! The cup is 1.5 inches tall and has a diameter of 2.875 inches. The saucer is about 0.875 inches tall and has a diameter of 4.75 inches. Neither piece is marked which is not unusual at all. Definitely Worcester from this period.
