Large Scenic Vase

This is a superb vase made by Grainger Lee & Co Worcester around 1815. I originally thought this was a Derby piece until I found an identical vase be it smaller and with floral decoration instead of the scene and itwas ID as being a Worcester piece according to The Dictrionary of Worcester Porcelain Volume I. So I was corrected. The vase is just superb! It is in the Empire style of the period and has a hand painted scene to the front of a landscape scene including two fisherman walking along a river in the front, some people by a large tree in front of a building in the background, a bridge over the river and some more buildings in the background. Lots of details and the quality of the painting is superb. With a piece this large and important I am sure an major artist painted the piece though I am not good enough to be able to identify him/her. The scene has a frame around it with some nice gilding to it including grape vines and little designs to the corner of musical and war implemetns, etc. The rest of the vase has that superb cobalt blue ground color to it with lots of fancy gilding all over as shown. My favorite part are the dolphin handles with the anthemion relief designs under them. They are just stunning! The piece is not marked which always suprises me - why not flaunt your greatest peices a bit more? The vase has a really nice size being about 15.25 inches tall with a diameter of about 5.75 inches. Rather large for a porcelain vase! Now for the not as good part. The piece was drilled as a lamp and then put back together to display as a vase again. The top main body is in almost prefect condition except for a spot of gld wear to the very bottom edge under the scene. As nice as it comes. The foot sadly has a piece broken out of the top and reglued and some firing cracks on the underside of which one formed a long hairline traveling up to the gold leaf design of the foot. The piece displays perfectly and looks absolutely amazing! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
