Cos Lettuce Sauceboat

This is a really nice sauce boat made by Worcester in the mid 18th century. It is modeled after a cos lettuce head with the leaves showing the individual veines and the edges painted green, a looped handle at the end with some smaller leaves coming off it. The dish is hand painted very nicely with the green and a bit of puce trim but the best part is that there are little bugs painted all over the piece as shown. Love them! The inside bottom has a small flower with a leaf painted in it. The sauce dish is in superb condition with a tiny bit of wear, a little bit of kiln dust and a few firing flaws. The only one worth mentioning is the on to the front under the spout which has a large spot missing where an impurity burned through or a porcelain bubble burst and left no glaze or color and the top layer of porcelain is gone there as well as shown. It is from the making and not a big deal but needs to be mentioned. The piece is not marked underneath which is normal during this period on these pieces! It is 5.25 inches tall, 9.75 inches long and 4.625 inches wide so a larger version than most. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1499
