Two Peony Rock Bird Pickle Dish

This is a rare pickle dish made by Worcester in about 1760 during their first period. The dish is thinly potted in soft paste porcelain and has an ivy leaf shape to it with teh stem forming a little handle and is decorated in under glaze blue with their Two Peony Rock Bird pattern. The bird is sitting on a rock in the center with the flowers to the sides and a little insect flying above. Nice decoration to the edges as well. This one here is a really nice example with the design looking nicer than usual. The underside is molded with the veins and stalk just like a real leaf - very elegant! It was meant to be used for pickles or sweetmeats at the table back in the day. The piece is marked with a workman's mark as shown. The little dish is in great condition with a tiny chip to the very tip as shown and a stray blue mark to the underside neat the handle but it displays perfectly! It is about 1 inch tall, 3.125 inches wide and 4 inches long. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $499
