Pair Seashell Scene Vases

This is an amazing pair of vases made by Worcester , Kerr & Binns in 1858 - Richard William Binns and William Henry Kerr took over the management of the Chamberlain & Co porcelain works in Severn Street in 1852, Kerr left the company in 1862. Each vase has a nice shape to it with a handle to each side, a nice design to the neck area and a leaf design to the bottom. The base was made separately with a design matching the neck of the vase and attached with a metal screw and nut. The main body body as well as the base has a superb cobalt blue ground color to it with lots of gold highlights. Many of the designs and that color combination reminds me of Sevres porcelain. The back of each vase has a hand painted green ivy garland on white ground with a pink rose design to the center. Nice raised gold trim around the panel. The best part is the seashell design hand painted to the front of each piece. It includes different shells as well as a sea urchin on one piece, some seaweed and corral on an off white back ground. Just amazing and finding seashell painted pieces is very hard. I guess since Chamberlain's Worcester is famous for these types of scenes this would have been continued by the same painters under Kerr & Binns. They are very ahrd to find. The two vases are in great condition with just a touch of minor wear to the gilding of the handles, a tiny white spot in the blue ground where there is an extra spot of porcelain from when it was made and the metal fittings that hold the base and main body together are a bit loose so the base can rotate if forced. The underside of one base has a very slight hairline to it while the other has a hairline to it that is more easily visible. It goes from the underside up the side if you really search for it but it is very ahrd to spot and stable so it won't go anywhere. Each vase is marked on the underside of the base with the orange Kerr & Binns K& B Worcester mark with the year 1858.They are 8.5 and 8.625 inches inches tall, 5.25 inches wide and 4 inches deep.
