Reticulated Casket / Lidded Box

This is a fancy reticulated casket or lidded box made by Worcester in 1876. I have never come across a piece like this and in my research only found two fancier versions which were both done by the famous George Oween. Am fairly sure this one here was not done by him unless it is an early piece. The piece sits on four feet which ahve a nice shape to them and some gold trim. The four sides as well as the lid are completely reticulated with a nice star type design. The center of each side and lid have a medallion in it with a raised leaf design with a Japanese influence. A bit mroe gold trim to those. The bottom of the box is solid. The lid comes off and has a ring of "pearls" along the edge as a trim. I am not sure what the purpose of this piece would have been. Possibly potpourri or jsut a keepsake box but then why does it have four holes in the top? No idea but it is really nice and interesting! The piece is in good condition with some tiny cracks in the reticulated section of the lid as well as a hairline going into the piece from the edge of the lid that is hard to spot. It displays perfectly! It is marked underneath with the green Royal Worcester mark as shown with 76 under it, the impressed Royal Worcester mark and a gilt BN as the gilder's mark. The piece is 4.25 inches tall, 6.875 inches wide and 4.375 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
