18th Century Nymphenburg The factory at Nymphenburg was founded with the support of Elector Max III Joseph of Bavaria by Franz Ignaz Niedermeyer in 1747. It was actually started at Neudeck and moved to Nymphenburg in 1761. Porcelain was not produced until 1753. The Elector died in 1770 after which Karl Theodor of the Palatinate took over. Since he already had the Frankenthal factory he did not do much until Frankenthal was closed in 1799. Franz Anton Bustelli (my favorite!) worked here from 1754 until dying very prematurely in 1763. He is widely regarded as the best designer of figurines in the world of porcelain. His successor was Dominikus Auliczek whose work is overshadowed by that of Bustelli.
