Superb Knife

This is a super rare knife made by Nymphenburg in the 18th century. I have never seen a set but there is one in the Nymphenburg book though they are beat up and restored. The handle of the knife is porcelain which is handpainted with their nice flower trellis and bird pattern as well as lots of flowers and some gold trim on top of a relief design. The quality of the painting is top quality and really just amazing to look at. The metal parts are steel and the ferrule and end piece are made of silver. The metal goes all the way through the handle and a little piece comes out the other end which was flattened to hold the handle in place. The metal parts seem to be original which is nice. The metal has lots of flaws to it from the making and the very tip is broken off. The knife is in great condition with some very minor oxidation to the metal parts which is normal but the porcelain is perfect with some minor wear to the gilding. The piece is unmarked which is always the case but definitely by Nymphenburg likely around 1770 maybe a bit earlier. The knife is 7.875 inches long of which the handle is about 3.5 inches. I also own the fork but since the painting is a bit different and the ferrules don't match I think they were not originally a set so I am selling it separately. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
