Zurich Miniature Farmer

This is a rare miniature figurine made in Zürich about 1770. It is of a farmer leanign on his scythe after a round of hard labor to rest a bit. He is superbly modeled and hand painted. A fun piece with a typical base and a look similar to Ludwigsburg pieces but distintly Zurich. The factory at Kilchberg Schooren near Zurich was founded in 1763 and made softpaste porcelain which had a creamy white appearance at first but in 1765 they already started making hard paste porcelain mostly. The piece is in great condition with the handle of the scythe missing and some nibbles to the tip of the hat and some flaking of the black paint to one of his shoes but otherwise perfect. The figure is 3.25 inches tall and the base has a diameter of 1.375 inches. It is marked underneath with a faint Z mark in blue as well as their usual impressed/ incised marks as shown.
