Vincennes Early Cup & Saucer

This is a very rare find - a very early cup and saucer ( Tasse à toilette (not a great name) et soucoupe ) made by Vincennes around 1750. It is very rare to find a piece this early by them when they still copied the top German makers in terms of style of decoration. The saucer is of a trembleuse shape with a little edge to the well to keep the cup from moving around easily. It is hand painted with three larger floral designs as well as a single flower in the center of the well. Gold trim to the edge and well rim. The flowers still have an influence from the wood cut style that Meissen used until the mid 1740s or so. Vincennes used these very early on as well. They look great and the soft paste always looks much nicer than hard paste porcelain. The cup has two top notch floral arrangements to it with a gilded handle to either side with applied leaves and berries to the terminals. These really early examples by this top maker are very ahrd to come by so I was thrilled to find it! What gives these early examples away is that the foot of the cup has been turned to form an inner and outer foot rim which is very unusual. Both [ieces are even marked underneath which is a treat. They have the typical interlaced L mark to them in blue with a dot in the center. No date code yet which started in 1753. Meissen was still the leader back then until Sevres took over a little while later which explain the look of the flowers. The cup is 1.875 inches tall and 2.625 inches in diameter with the handles ticking out a bit from there. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 4.875 inches in diameter. The cup & saucer are in great condition with with wear to the gold trim around the well of the saucer, some minor use marks to the inside of the cup and an area of the foot ring that is rough. Not sure if it is a manufacturing flaw or some odd chipping but it's very minor and the set displays amazingly. Some flaws to the paste as is normal on their very early wares. Extremely hard to find as well! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
