Puce Scenic Plate

This is a rare plate made by Tournai around 1770. It is hand painted with a scene in puce of a town with a few houses in it, some trees, a church and some poeple. Birds and clouds in the sky as well. The scene takes up the entire center of the plate so it rather large. This piece was possibly painted by the famous Henri-Joseph Duvivier (during 1763-71) who is very well known for his puce scenic pieces. It is surrounded by a gold ring and the rest of the plate has a cobalt blue ground with some gold flowers as well as a nice gold leaf trim to the edge. A really nice plate from a top maker back then. This plate is made of softpaste and is in excellent condition with no chips but there is some scratching to mostly one side of the blue ground but it does not go through and this displays very nicely. The very edge has some gold wear and the rim has a bit of a dip in it from the firing process which is more noticable when you put the plate upside down on an even surface like a table top. Underneath there are two larger impurities in the rim and some fine black impurities all from the making so not big deal. The plate is marked underneath with the crossed swords in gold with four crosses all around, an incised 6 and a hole in the footring which is typical. It is 1.25 inches tall and 10.25 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
