Floral Knife

This is a superb knife with the handle made by Chantilly in the first half of the 18th century. It is made of soft paste porcelain and is hand painted in the Kakiemon style derived from earlier Japanese designs. This one has a nice floral design to it I have not seen before - the colors and design are superb! The colors are unlike any other ones I have ever seen on porcelain which is why they are so famous. The design is completely outlined in black which is important for them to be the real deal. The metal blade is marked with an impressed mark of a crown over the letter I ot T as well as a name above that though I am having a tough time making it out (likely the makers mark of the blacksmith) looks like ROVRGEOIS. The knife is amazingly complete with the bladeand the silver ferrule which isn't that common. Sadly the handle has suffered a bit of a crack to the part near the ferrule as shown and some of the usual wear of soft paste pieces but it still displays superbly. The blade is in great shape as is the ferrule which is marked but I cannot make much out of it. The knife is 10 inches long of which the visible part of the porcelain handle being about 3.375 inches long. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
