Saint Cloud Open Salt Dish

This is a superb and rare open salt dish / cellar / trencher saucer made by Saint Cloud during the first half of the 18th century. It is made of their famous creamy colored soft paste with an under glaze blue decorationknown as Rayonnant style that is really nice. Softpaste porcelain has a charm to it unlike any other porcelain and is a must have for any collector! Early St. Cloud is a superb example of this type of porcelain and this rare shape looks amazing! The edge of the top and bottom rim has a ribbed design to it, a large circular design in the top bottom, a nice trim to the top inside as well as around the bottom outside and a blue line along both edges. Just a really nice looking piece! The piece displays perfectly but there are four nicely restored chips to the top inside edge and two small firing cracks to the bottom edge from when it was made - as shown. It is a great example from this maker and also perfect to learn about soft paste porcelain and not an easily found piece at all. The salt dish is not marked but that is very normal. The piece is 1.5 inches tall and just a touch over 3 inches in diameter at the bottom. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $2999
