Saint Cloud Beaker & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by St-Cloud during the first quarter of the 18th century. It is made of a creamy colored soft paste with an underglaze blue decoration that is quite nice. Softpaste porcelain has a charm to it unlike any other porcelain! This is a rare handleless cup or beaker most likely meant for hot chocolate. Not a shape I have seen often and together with the trembleuse saucer a stunning set. The cup and saucer have a ribbed design to the paste in a section below the blue decoration and the saucer has a little rim around the center well to keep the cup from moving around too much. The set is in amazing condition with just a few tiny and normal manufacturing flaws like a small black firing spots and a bit of wear to the clear glaze normal on soft paste pieces since it was softer than the usual hard paste we are more used to these days. Some of that has stained on the inside of the cup as shown. A very minor flat chip to the foot ring as well as some made during the making but these don't show unless you turn the cup over. Neither the cup nor the saucer are marked which is common. The cup is 2.5 inches tall and 2.75 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 4.75 inches in diameter.
