Saint Cloud Blue & White Trembleuse Cup & Saucer

This is a superb cup and saucer made by St-Cloud during the first quarter of the 18th century. It is made of a creamy colored soft paste with a Renaissance inspired lambrequin design in under glaze blue loosely derived from the broderie ornaments of the designer Jean Berain (1640-1711) and his followers. Really quite nice! Softpaste porcelain has a charm to it unlike any other porcelain and is a must have for any collector! The cup and saucer have a ribbed design to the paste in a section below the blue decoration and the saucer has a little rim around the center well to keep the cup from moving around much like a trembleuse saucer. A nice addition that is a bit unsual is the blue floral design to the cup inside as shown. Seems to have only been done on this cup shape which is rare. This is a handleless cup aka a tea bowl. The set is in great condition with a small chips to the trembleuse ring of the saucer and to the underside edge as shown from both views! The saucer is unmarked with the cup have an number 9 with a line below it as shown. The cup is 2.125 inches tall and 3.25 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.25 inches tall and 5.625 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
