Music Scene Box

This is a superb large porcelain boz made in the Sevres style in the mid 19th century. I know it is highly unlikely to be true Sevres but compared to all those boxes out there sold as Sevres this one beats them all so it earned its spot here sort of speak :) The top of the lid is handpainted with a superb and very detailed scene of three child musician. It is surrounded by a gold dot trim followed by a raised white dot trim, a gold line trim and then a nice gold trim on a turquoise ground color. The shape of the box only adds to the elegance of this rare piece. The sides of the box have the same turquoise ground color as well as a gold design highlighted with so called jewels - these are actually enamel dots on real gold applied to the design. More gold trim to finish off a perfect peice of porcelain. The metal part is a gold color metal likely bronze or brass but it might even be gilded from the look of it. The front closing hook moves up and down which I have not seen before either and the inside is lines with a light blue silk material. All in all one of the nicest boxes I ahve owned and worthy of any collection! It is is superb condition with some staining to the inside cloth lining, a tiny bit of wear and 11 missing 'jewels' and raised white dots. Oddly the bottom of the box is unglazed and unmarked and I am definitely tempted to remove the cloth interior lining to look for a mark but cannot bring myself to look and ruin it in the process. The box is 1.625 inches tall, 7 inches wide and 6.25 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
