Large Falconet Figurine

This is a rare biscuit figurine made by Sevres between 1766 and 1773. He is known as " Le Batelier de Saint Cloud ' or the Boatman of Saint-Cloud. The figure is made of biscuit porcelain (unglazed porcelain) and is of a young gentleman dressed in shorts, a nice vest and jacket with a hat on his head and a scarf around his neck. He is standing on a nice base with a tree trunk behind him. These early Sevres figures are becoming really hard to find. And this one is larger than many and modeled with lots of nice detail which is a lot crisper than in glazed figurines! The figure is marked underneath with an incised F for Falconet who modeled the piece with Bachelier and approved it hence the F under it. Falconet added his F to pieces he approved. He is in OK condition but has seen better days and needs some TLC from a good restorer. His right hand is missing, there is a piece of the flower by the tree trunk missinga chip to the leaves in the back, a bunch of firing crack to the base, his head was off but that is hard to spot, his right leg was broken jsut above the shoe, his shoe came off the base when it broke through the stump, a chip to his hat and the ends of two branches in the back are smoothed over. It all sounds worse than it is and he still displays quite nicely as is but a good restorer could bring him back to perfection and then he would be an amazing figure ! The piece is 9.375 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep. Quite heavy as it is made of a solid piece of porcelain. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $999
