Zuerich Softpaste Figurine

This is a figurine made in Zuerich about 1765. The factory at Kilchberg Schooren near Zurich was founded in 1763 and made softpaste porcelain which had a creamy white appearance at first but in 1765 they already started making hard paste porcelain mostly. So this figure is from the very beginnings of this already rare maker. The 'safe' shape is an indication to it being early as not much could happen to it during the firing process. Very few of these pieces are left today and they are quite expensive. Actually the ones I did find went up to 50,000 Euros but these were fancier than mine. This was my longest mystery piece which took me quite a few years to solve! Thanks for help from Christophe Perles who also has some very nice procelain in Paris or online and lots of books and my dad who recognized the writing on the book the boy is holding as Kurrentschrift - an old form of German / Swiss writing quite a long time ago. I am too young to know this style of writing but he recognized it at first glance not that I am calling him old here :) The small letter c is the easiest giveaway. So with that in mind we looked at who was left that could have made it and Zuerich was really it. The books confirm the style, colors, etc. for this figure and I will look some more if we can find this actual piece but since they are so rare that might be impossible. The figurine is handpainted very well and it is also modeled quite well. Very well done and quite solid. No air holes or anything else. It is in great condition with some wear to the paint mostly on his knee and his head. Also some small chips and firing cracks to the white part of the base. The face is very well painted and he even has teeth. It is 3 inches tall, 4.375 inches wide and 2.875 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $14999
