Blue Ground Scenic Cup & Saucer

This is a superb cup and saucer made in the Paris area of France in the early 19th century. I bought it frm a dealer who said it was by Schoelcher but there is no way of knowing that without it being marked. Could be any number of makers from this area. Definiltey a good quality peice and that matte blue color / gold combo is amazing!! Dagoty was the first to use this glazed and unglazed in combination as far as I know. Both pieces are decorated with a ring of matte blue ground with aicely done gold designs over that that are partially tooled for extra details. Gold trim to the edges, handle and inside of the cup and a nice relief design to the bottom part of the cup with some gold highlights. It's a stunning looking set! The cup and saucer are in great condition with some wear to the gilding mainly to the foot edge of the cup and the edge and edge of the well of the saucer. Couple of tiny firing flaws normal to these early pieces. Not terrible and it's an even wear so they display very nicely! Neither piece is marked but that is pretty common for the makers of this area! The cup is 3.25 inches tall with the handle sticking up about 0.75 inches above the rest of the cup to make it 4 inches and 3.75 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.625 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
