Purple Art Nouveau Plate

This is a superb plate made by Nymphenburg in the late 19th century. It is hand painted with a very stunning Art Nouveau design that reminds me of a Georgia O'Keeffe painting but this dates to right about when she was born. The center is white with an orange and yellow flower in it with two more flower buds coming along the sides. The rim is painted with a nice purple ground color with streaks going in from the edge and three reticulated sections highlighted with gold trim with three smaller designs near the nicely shaped edge in gold and a gold trim to the rim. These pieces are not easy to find and I really enjoy them. This piece is rare since it is right from when they were first designed! The plate is 1.125 inches tall and 8.25 inches in diameter. It is in good condition with just a touch of wear to the gilding and one of the points on the edge is a bit rough and was gilded over so probably a tiny chip. Invisible when on display! It is marked underneath with the blue shield mark under a crown as well as the word Nymphenburg under that used around 1894, some purple numbers and letters along the edge of the underside and the impressed shield mark with the star above it used from 1890 until 1905. Also Gesetzlich geschuetzt (copyright) in an orange rectangle as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $399
