Matte Blue & Fancy Gilding Tray

This is a nice serving tray made by Nymphenburg in the early 20th century.A really nice piece from this period with a perfect blend of a superb shape with a matte blue ground color and lots of superb tooled gilding. A nice color combo for sure! I always really like the matte ground colors but they are so rare that one does not see them often. I think they look much better with the nice gilding than a shiny ground color. The tray has a superb design in the center of a swan on top of a pedestal with little critters to the bottom that have leeaf garlands growing out of the mouths. Nice design to the well edge with a thick gold band to the bottom and top of the rim. A handle to either side. The piece is 1.875 inches tall including the handles, 9.625 inches deep and 13.5 inches wide. It is marked underneath with the impressed shield mark with the number 946 as shown. The tray displays superbly but has a large piece of mostly the rim broken out that was reglued as shown. From the more important inside it is hard to spout but from the outside there are pieces missing. Still an easy job for any good restorer and well worth doing. It's a superb and rare piece that it makes it worthwhile. I also own a few other pieces from this set I will add to the site. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $249
