Matte Blue & Fancy Gilding Sugar Dish

This is a nice little lidded sugar dish made by Nymphenburg in the early 20th century.A really nice piece from this period with a perfect blend of a superb shape with a matte blue ground color and lots of superb tooled gilding. A nice color combo for sure! I always really like the matte ground colors but they are so rare that one does not see them often. I think they look much better with the nice gilding than a shiny ground color. The foot, mask handle to either side, edges and finial are done in shiny gilding. The handle is in the shape of a lady's head. The pot is 4.375 inches tall including the finial, 3.5 inches from handle to handle with a diameter of 3 inches. It is marked with the under glaze green shield mark with the word Nymphenburg underneath as shown. The pot has sadly been damaged. The damage is only to the foot/base part of it and the main body and lid are not affected. The foot was reglued and a good restorer could easily bring it back to perfection. It's a superb and rare piece that it makes it worthwhile. I also own a few other pieces from this set I will add to the site. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
