Funny Beer Mug

This is a superb beer mug made between 1835 and 1850 I would venture to guess by Nymphenburg. The mark is in a bad spot and the top is missing so it is very hard to date it. Certainly not newer than the 1850's! This is a very funny piece as the front of the stein is handpainted with a scene with lots of animals partially dressed in human attire and doing human thing. The bottom of the scene has the label: Die Gelehrte Gesellschaft which roughly translates to: The high Society :) So they are making fun of the high ranking member of society with this piece. Quite amusing really! The painting is surrounded by a nice gold trim and the mug has a raised design of rings on top and the bottom. The lid is made of Zinc and is marked but with just the angel mark and no other initials or names and thus hard to date as well. The mug is in good condition with a tiny bit of wear, some oxidation to the zinc and a crack through the bottom of the handle only (not the top!). The pot is marked underneath with the impressed shield mark on the footring as well as an 1/5. A nice pre 1850 piece of Nymphenburg porcelain with lots of humor attached - not something one sees often at all. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
