Super Rare Doll's Head

This is a very rare and fine porcelain shoulder head for a doll made by Meissen in the mid to late 19th century. One rarely ever sees these pieces and I have never seen this example before. It is of a young lady or girl with lots of fine details to it. Superb light brown or dirty blonde hair drawn back into a bun, nicely detailed ears and very well painted facial features. In terms of dolls this would have been the most high end of pieces like this! The shoulder plates in the front and back each have three holes in therm to attach to the doll's body! It is marked on the inside of the shoulder plates with their under glaze blue crossed swords mark, incised model number X.21 and imprssed number 111. Possibly originally modeled by Johann Gottfried Dressler . These pieces truly cross the line of the German China doll from being a toy to true art. As nice as they come! I have only seen a handful of these over 25 years and only once as part of a whole doll and that sold for almost 10K. So definitely a very special piece. It is 3.875 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 2.25 inches deep. Insuperb condition except for a flake to the bottom edge as shown that is glazed over and from when it was made. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1499
