Rare Tischchenmuster Spittoon

This is a very hard to find piece - a spittoon / cuspidor made by Meissen in the mid 19th century. It is decorated with their famous Tischchenmuster (small table design) in the Imari colors. I ahve never come across one of these in a design other than blue onion and they are hard to find as well. Probably because it was done by a painter for his own use as denoted by the four cuts across the swords. They often decorated their peices in the specialty and thus the quality of the painting is always top notch on these examples. The spittoon has a larger top bowl with the central opening going into the smaller bottom bowl part like a funnel. The top inside part has the table design to it and a nice red and yellow trim to the inside rim with gilding to the edge. The underside of the top bowl has two vase designs to it and the bottom bowl has four flower design to it. A really neat and unusual example! The piece is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords with four cuts to it as well as an impressed mark. The piece is 2.75 inches tall with a top diameter of 5.625 inches. The piece is in great condition with two tiny chips to the foot ring as shown but they look to be from when the piece was made. Two small stray blue spots on the inside side wall of the bottom bowl part. It displays perfectly! Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
