Large Cobalt Blue, Gold, Floral & Dresden Scene Vase

This is a large baluster shaped vase made by Meissen in the mid 19th century. The mark looks to be from the Schmierzeit of around the 1820 but the flower colors and way they are painted fits into the later 1830s. The vase shape was designed by Leuteritz I believe who started his work at Meissen in the 1830s. The piece is made of a smaller base that is attached to the large top vase part. There are two cartouches to the top part and one to the base on the front and also on the back side. Each catouche is surrounded by raised rocaille scrolls highlighted with gilding. The three on the back all have hand painted polychrome floral arrangements to them while two on the front have flowers as well but the largest has a scene of the city of Dresden to it that is superbly hand painted with lots of details to it including including the Augustus bridge, the Frauenkirche and Hofkirche. Some people and even a horse to the river bank as well as two little boats with a landscape surrounding. A really nice scene. Some ore gilding along the bottom edge and a very fancy gilding to the top inside. A stunning vase of a nice size! The piece is marked to the bottom with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark (first choice) that is a little smeared hence the name of the period of around 1820. Also the usual impressed/incised numbers as shown. 12.25 inches tall with the top having a diameter of around 8 inches. It is in superb condition especially for the age. Almost no wear to the gilding except to a few spots along the base and the very edge of the top. The shape of the top rim is a bit uneven which is not unusual for this shape and size. A great piece with some nice decoration and a large size perfect to make a statement! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
