Loosdrecht Ormolu Scenic Vase

This is a really nice vase with the porcelain part made by Loosdrecht in the 18th century and the Ormolu mounts added a bit later. A very heavy piece due to all that bronze! When I first saw it I couldn't figure out what this odd shaped "vase" was in the center as I had not seen anything like it from the 18th century but as soon as I held it in my hands I saw that it once used to be a teapot that was damaged and converted into this piece. Obviously much lvoed and treasured that the owners still wanted it in the family! So they ground off the spout remains and the handle and added the superb bronze ormolu to hide the flaws perfectly and voila - a vase - just don't fill it too much with water or it will leak out the spout remnants :) The porcelain part is superbly hand painted in polychrome colors with a scene of a boy and a girl in a nice landscape surrounding on one side and a little landscape scene on the other. The quality is super and it's not something you will find again from this rare maker. I took it apart carefully to reveal the M:oL script mark in udner glaze blue as shown on the porcelain. The mounts are likely French. If you polish them up they would be back to golden in color and it would look stunning but that is not something I want to even attempt. The piece is in great condition as is with the obvious porcelain issues that I mentioned already. Still worth having as it is a neat conversation piece for sure and the painting quality is amazing for them. The entire piece is 8.5 inches tall, 5.875 inches wide and 4 inches deep.
