Locre Sugar Dish

This is a lidded sugar pot / dish made by Rue de la Fontaine au Roi also known as La Courtille or Locre in the late 18th century . It is hand painted in the typical Paris style but that maroon ground color in combination with some nice designs and gilding is just superb. Each side has a face on it surrounded by a tooled gold trim with designs to either side, there are two more designs with urns in the center on the lid and lots of gold trim everwhere. There are faux handles to either side of the main dish. All in all a really nice looking sugar pot. The piece displays nicely but sadly it has a long hairline to one side as shown. Very hard to spot from the outside but obvious once you lift the lid. The finial has some discoloration to the thin spot but after looking at it for a while I don't believe it was off and restored back on but just has a bit of discoloration to the original gilding. A really nice piece to display! The piece is marked underneath which doesn't happen all that often. It has their under glaze blue crossed arrows as shown as well as some incised marks. The piece is about 7 inches tall and just over 4.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
