Puce Scenic Charger

This is a large plate / charger made by KPM around in the late 18th century. KPM used no painters mark like the red orb yet during this period thus you only have the blue scepter and impressed marks most of the time. The piece is handpainted with a superb large scene in monochrome puce in the center with a nice design around it including oak leaves (I think) with small flowers scattered throughout the rest of the plate. Two small butterflies to hide firing flaws I assume. Gold trim to the rim which has a nice shape to it. The scenes is top quality and I guess is a harbor type scene with two people by a lake or river, a nice castle in the center and the usual landscape surroundings. Somehow I am seeing a signature in the center roch in the front but I might just be imagining things and my camera isn't good enough to really show it clearly. The plate is in super condition with some wear to the gold trim on the edge. It is 2 inches tall and just under 14 inches in diameter and is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter as well as three lines on the footring and a number 61. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1249
