Chinoiserie Teawarmer

This is a very attractive veilleuse or tea pot warmer made in France in the early 19th century most likely by Valentine or Bayeux. It is handpainted with stylized flowers with an Asian flaire to them as well as a bird and a butterfly. The best part, however, is the Chinoisserie scne on the bottom part including an Asian man in front of a bridge or fence with a flower vase to his left side. The rest of the piece has a nice cobalt blue ground color with vermicelli gilding on it. The teapot has a figural spout. Truly a very decorative piece to have around! The set is in very good condition with some wear to the gilding mostly on the very bottom part of the lower piece, the very tip of the finial has broken off and was reglued and there is a tiny flat chip to the top edge of the pot though just a touch of gilding would hide it perfectly. All in all in as good a shape as one can find and it displays superbly! The teapot and the bottom part are marked with the usual incised marks of this period and region as well as an underglaze blue l.f. mark in script. The entire piece is 10 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 4.25 inches deep. Sorry about the pictures - still learning the ins and outs of the new camera - the colors are much nicer in person!
