Clignancourt Amazing Tureen

This is a superb large tureen / terrine made in Clignancourt in the Paris region of France in the later 18th century. Pierre Durelle founded the factory around 1771 and it was under the protection of the brother of King Louis XV (future King Louis XVIII). There is another one of these in the Louvre museum in France which is stated to probably have come from the service ordered by the Count of Provence for his Château de Brunoy. These usually had more than one turreen so this might have been one of the other examples from this service. Either way it is a fantastic piece that is hand painted with two large floral arrangements on the lid as well as four small ones and a gold trim to the edge. Nice handle design also gilded to look amazing. The bottom part has four large floral arrangements to it and sits on four feet that connect to the fancy handles. Lots more gilding to these parts. This lidded dish is in superb condition with almost no wear at all. There are two small underside chips to the lid as shown which do not show when it is in place and two tiny chips to the feet. The piece displays perfectly. Some fring flaws normal to these early and large pieces but it is as nice as they come! The bottom piece is marked underneath with the red LSX (the prince's initials) under a crown mark as shown. The terrine is about 9.5 inches tall, 14 inches wide and 9 inches deep.
