Lady in a Pavilion Cup & Saucer

This is a very rare cup and saucer made by Chelsea in the mid 18th century - circa 1752. You can either find it marked with the raised anchor mark or unmarked as is the case here. The set is made of softpaste porcelain which has a charm that hardpaste could never come close to and each piece has a nice octagonal shape to it. Very much based on Japanese porcelain rather than Chinese! The cup and saucer are each hand painted with the Lady in a (The) pavilion pattern in a superb Kakiemon color palette! There is a Japanese lady - possibly a Geisha - as well as a raised walkway with a vase or basket at the corners and a design above that. Two birds and some clouds. A stunning design and so much nicer because of the soft paste! It even has a little flower to the bottom inside of the cup! The set is in amazing condition with just a tiny fleabite to the edge of the saucer as shown. As nice as they come and the set displays perfectly! Neither piece is marked as I already mentioned but each has the characteristic sput marks from the firing process as shown. The cup is just under 2 inches tall with a diameter of 3.125 inches. The saucer is just over 1 inch tall and has a diameter of 5 inches. Definitely a new favorite of mine! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
