Kakiemon Knife w/Gold Fix

This is a really neat knife with the handle made by either Chantilly or St. Cloud (I am leaning towards Saint Cloud) in the frist half of the 18th century. It is made of softpaste porcelain and is painted in the Kakiemon style with a nice red, yellow and blue blossom design I have not seen before. The colors and design are quite nice! The metal blade is made of silver and marked with an impressed hallmark I cannot figure out. Definitely French 18th century. The ferrule is marked with the Frencheagle mark for18K gold and the ring inserted into the handle looks to be the same material and age. So quite a bit of gold used in this knife which is unusual. Obviously it had been broken in that spot and it is a neat repair. There is also a hairline though hard to see in the smaller section between the ferrule and the ring. The knife displays superbly and looks very neat with that gold repair. It also has a silver point at the end as shown. All in all a really neat example of early French cutlery! The knife is failry small ebing 7.5 inches long of which the visible part of the porcelain handle is about 2.75 inches long. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
