Pistol Grip Knife

This is a superb 18th century pistol grip porcelain handled knife made by Bow around 1760. A fancier version from most I ahve ever seen since it combines a relief pattern to the paste and a blue design while most only have one or the other! The handle is made of porcelain that has a nice handpainted underglaze blue design to it including flowers and scroll work. The relief design look to be flowers and scroll work as well. The ferrule that connects the blade part and the handle or at least covers that part is made of Sterling silver and the blade part seems to be made of steel - it is a later replacement from the late 19th century which was a common thing to do back then sicne the old iron ones rusted badly and fell apart. A great example and not something you find often by any means! The piece is in perfect condition except for some oxidation to the metal parts. The piece is about 7.875 inches long and the thickest porcelain part is about 1 inch wide. The porcelain handle part that shows is about 2.75 inches long. Not marked but the design and paste are definitely Bow. The steel blade has a double H mark impressed and H&H Hurst Brighton. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
