Bonnin & Morris Dish

This is a potential very interesting dish. It has the mark used by the Bonnin and Morris factory which existed from 1770 until 1772 and possibly a little longer. The owners were Gousse Bonnin and George Anthony Morris and the factory was in Philadelphia . Only around 20 or so specimen are known and it is not something I am familiar with but I had to buy the piece jsut in case. I know the pattern and this sort of scallop shell shape was made by Caughley but the design is different and the paste here is definitely not Caughley and the pattern is different as well. It seems more like Earthenware or Pearlware to me but I do know from reading up on the subject that some of the Bonnin & Morris pieces were not translucent and early on dismissed at not being true porcelain. I don't have the knowledge or ability to figure this one out myself so maybe someone out there is interested enough in it or has the right connection to try. Definitely worth a look! The dish has a nice shape to it and is decorated with an under glaze blue cormorant fisherman pattern printed onto the piece. I don't believe there are any known printed patterns by this maker either but I don't know. The dish has seen better days with a chunk missing from the left side, a long hairline going from the top into the dish and a chunk on the right side reglued. If it is by Bonnin and Morris this would make little difference because it is so rare. The glaze has a blue tint to it in thicker areas. It is about 1.25 inches tall, 5.75 inches wide and 6 inches long. It is marked as shown on the underside with the under glaze blue P mark that I ahve not seen anywhere else before. If nothing else something interesting to dive into and figure out more about it. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
