Woods Lady w/ Child Figurine

This is a superb figurine made by Enoch Wood (or possibly Ralph ) made in the Staffordshire region in the early 19th century. Made of creamware I believe. A very unusual piece and really very nice. I guess there is a discussion on whether this depicts St. Anne reading to the Virgin Mary or The Prudent Mother ? I always say it shows whatever you want it to show. Either way it is a very unusual piece and quite nice. It shows a lady sitting in a high back chair with the child standing next to her reading the book which states Ave Maria on the top. A very well modeled piece that is hand painted perfectly. I especially like the way the base is painted. An odd thing is that both the lady and the child have a hole poked into the top of their heads even though the figurine is hollow underneath. They must have had issues with the ehads getting damaged during the firing or there might be another reason for it I cannot figure out. The figurine is about 7.25 inches tall, 4.75 inches wide and 3.375 inches deep. The figure is in amazing condition with no issues at all! Unmarked as far as I can tell but there is a shallow line along the foot of the base underneath and a red line underneath as well. Not sure if they mean anything at all. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
