Wahliss Scenic Plate #3

This is a superb plate made by Wahliss of Vienna , Austria in the later 19th century. Ernst Wahliss was an Austrian ceramicist who created ornate porcelain and earthenware vessels for European elites. This plate here is a nice example of his work though he is better known for his figurines. The plate is very much in the so called Royal Vienna style with a large scene in the center of copy of Titian ( Tiziano Vecellio ) painting of the Girl with a fruit bowl. The entire center is hand painted with teh scene incuding a young lady / girl holding up the fancy bowl full of different fruits with drapes to her side and a landscape scene in the background. I have never seen this scene on a plate before but once or twice on a porcelain plaque. It's a really nice scene! One cannot say enough about the quality of this painting! All hand painted off course. The cobalt blue ground rim with the superb gold trim which is partially raised make this a very stunning plate. A nice gold band with a raised design to the edge of the well. These types of plates are very elegant and decorative which is why they are so popular. The plate is in perfect condition as shown except for one spot on the edge where the gilding is worn but it doesn't show when on display and is very minor. The piece is 9.625 inches in diameter and just under 1.25 inches tall so a very nice size. It is marked underneath with Wahliss , Wien in red as well as the name of the artist of the original painting in red as shown - Tizian Vecellio . Gilded over factory mark for the maker of the blank which looks to have been Pirkenhammer. Please email me for more information or photos.
