Volkstedt Pot de Creme #3

This is a superb pot de creme or pot au jus made by Volkstedt in the 18th century. It is a small cup with its lid either for hot chocolate or a broth type soup for drinking back in those days. The cup has a nice large hand painted floral arrangement to the front, two smaller flowers to the other side, three even smaler flowers to the top of the lid and a nice finial and braided handle highlighted in puce. Early Volkstedt porcelain is not something you come across often and I have not seen little cups like this before. Really nice! The pot and lid are in good condition with a chip to the top of the lid and small spots to the paste. On the inside the spots seemed to ahve oxidized or stained a bit as shown but the piece displays very well. Their early paste was quite greyish rather than the pure white we see nowadays and had some inclusion issues as well. The cup is marked underneath with the crossed pitch fork mark as well as a possible painter's in blue as shown. The piece is 2.5 inches tall with the lid in place and has a diameter of about 2.125 inches at the widest point. A rare find and a real beauty! Please email me for more information or photos.
