Volkstedt Charger #2

This is a second very large plate or serving bowl made by Volkstedt around 1762. These date right to the early days of this maker since they still show the issues they had during that time with making porcelain. This is an interesting maker since most people don't know that the owner actually came up with his own formula for hard paste porcelain with no help of any Meissen connection in a direct or roundabout way! This is its own separate thing entirely which is amazing considering the fuss they make about Boettger :) The plate is handpainted with some really nice flowers in puce mostly in the center with a few small ones on the rim. The rim design was copied from the Meissen factory and has relief decorations of flowers and triangles on it. A very typical design which was used by Volkstedt for a famous service during this time. The plate is in great condition with four rim chips and some raised bumps in the paste which are more easily seen underneath since on top they were painted with small flowers which gave them a 3D effect. Also a little bit of wear to the design mostly on the high points of the black spots. It is marked underneath with the hayfork in blue as well as a puce 4. The plate is almost 12 inches in diameter which is huge for this time period. Please email me for more information or photos.
