Vienna American Market Plate #1

This is a n interesting plate made by one of the many factories copying the Royal Vienna beehive / shield mark in the 19th or early 20th century. It seems to ahve been made for the American market which I have not seen before. The center is hand painted with a signed scene of a cowboy or frontiersman on his horse with some cattle nearby in a nice landscape surrounding. A very nice quality scene with the typical fancy gilding some of which is raised and some tiny white enamel beads or " jewels " on a cobalt blue rim. The painting is signed J. Turba or something along those lines. These types of plates are very elegant and decorative which is why they are so popular and having a scene that relates to the US is just superb and definitely not something one comes across often. The plate is in great condition with a little bit of wear to the gilding right outside the well of the plate likely from stacking but it displays superbly! The piece is 9.5 inches in diameter and 0.875 inches tall so a very nice size. It is marked with the blue shield / beehive mark underneath as well as some impressed marks as shown and the words: " Just where the woodlands met the flowery surf of the prairie, mounted upon his horse, with Spanish saddle and stirrups set a herdsman , arrayed in gaiters and doublet of deerskin. "Evangeline". Not sure who the person quoted is - probably from a book or something like that. A very nice and interesting plate! Please email me for more information or photos.
