Valenciennes Egg Cup #1

This is a nice egg cup made by Valenciennes in the 18th century. The factory was founded in 1785 by Fauquez and Lamoniary but it was short lived until about 1795 and then again frm 1800 until 1810. For a short time Vanier was the director. They didn't make the most exciting wares hence the short life. I wanted to own the egg cup to have a rare example of this maker and their mark. The piece is hand painted with a blue corn flwoer design - something that was very popular at all the French / Paris makers during this period since it was a favorite of Marien Antoinette 's. A bit of gold trim and voila - a very nice little egg cup :) The eggcup is in good condition with some wear to the gilding and some tiny black firing inclusions called fly ash. Tiny black dots that resulted from ash from the wood during the firing process to be deposited into the glaze. Very common on early pieces especially for smaller makers. The piece is 2.375 inches tall and 1.875 inches in diameter. Marked with their red monogramm as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
