St. Petersburg Peterhof Banquet Service Charger

This is a rare porcelain charger / giant plate / serving dish from the Imperial Peterhof Banquet Porcelain Service made for the Grand Peterhof Palace by the famous St. Petersburg Imperial factory during the reign of Tsar Nikolai the 1st . Nicholas I reigned as Emperor of Russia from 1825 until 1855. The design was taken from the Feuille de Choux / Cabbage Leaves pattern first made at the Sevres factory in France in the 18th century. This piece here would have been made as an addition to the original Sevres set in the time from 1847 until 1853. The piece is quite large with the outside decorated with three blue and gold trims in the shape of a cabbage leaf with the edge having a gold trim to it. Each blue trim has a large floral arrangement hand painted in the center with a smaller signle flower in between along the rim, three more flowers to the edge of the well and a little floral arrangement in the center. A great looking piece! It is in superb condition with almost no signs of wear. There are a few tiny firing spots some of which were ground away in the factory (a common practise on early porcelain), a glaze bubble that popped under the gold trim during the last firing right along the edge, an extra blob of porcelain paste in one spot and a firing flaw to the back rim. All from when it was made and the piece looks stunning when on display! The piece is marked with the blue N I mark under the crown as shown It is 2.25 inches tall with diameter of 15 inches.
