St. Petersburg Gothic Service Cup

This is a rare porcelain cup from the Gothic service made by the famous St. Petersburg Imperial factory during the reign of Czar Nikolai II or Nicholas the 2nd who ruled from 1894 until his death in 1917. This cup is from 1897. The Gothic service was a Christmas present for Tsar Nicholas I in 1833 and was used for banquets in the Winter Palace for a long time. New pieces were added by the later Tsars until the end of their rule. The piece is hand painted with a superb and colorful design to the top two thirds of the outside which reminds me of stained glass including flowers and what looks like bugs. Very stylized! The design is quite colorful and looks amazing against the blue ground. Some gold trim to the rest of the piece which is especially nice on the inside as shonw. The cup displays nice but has damage to the foot rim as shown. There are four chips to it. This would be a very easy fix for a restorer especially since it does not involve gold trim or color. No saucer. The piece is marked with the green N II mark under a crown with 97 as the year mark underneath. An incised number to the paste. The cup is just under 2.625 inches tall and 2.875 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $499
