Soviet Danko Figurine

This is a rare original period figurine called the Gardener after the model by Alexander Matveev in the mid to late 1920's and made by the State Porcelain Factory ( Used to be St. Petersburg Imperial factory ) in Soviet Russia . The figure is superbly modeled and painted and one of those pieces that just 'speaks' to you. Just amazing! The piece is of a lady gardener or peasant wearing a nicely painted cloth over her hair while picking beets or radishes which she is holding in her apron. A watering can by her side on a nicely painted base. The detail of the painting is amazing and looking at this peice one can understand why these pieces are so popular! The figure is in perfect condition. There is a spot under her skirt and in the back where the apron ties that are unglazed but these held supports during the firing process and are original to the making! The figurine is marked underneath with the impressed hammer and sickle mark with the piece of cog as shown. The piece is larger than most being 10 inches tall, 3.75 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep. If you collect these pieces she is a must have! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
