Small Bilston Battersea Snuff Box

This is a cute little enamel on copper box made in England - probably in the South Staffordshire region - in the late 18th century. Probably in the Bilston area or possibly Birmingham or even London but definitely English from the 1700s. They are famous for their Battersea enamel boxes, etc. This here is a true snuff box / tabatiere / pill box and it is a really fun piece! Smaller than most I have owned but really nicely done. The box is decorated on the outside lid with a little hand painted landscape scene in a quatrefoil shape with some raised gold trim around the edge and cobalt blue trim around that Four little flowers to the corners. Cobalt blue trim around the edgeI have not owned a piece with cobalt blue decoration before and that in combination of the gilding is superb! Each of the sides has a similar design to it eacept instead of scenes in the center there are more flowers. The underside and inside is white. The metal mounts are gold colored so probably brass. The box is in great condition with just some damage to the left side - bottom right corner mainly as shown. The piece displays perfectly and the lid closes nicely and stays shut. A really cute little example! The box is 1.125 inches tall,2.125 inches wide and 1.625 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
