Staffordshire Grotesque Dwarf #2

This is a second figurine of a grotesque dwarf after the Derby original made in the Staffordshire region around 1785. He is made of Pearlware and was superbly modeled and painted. These dwarf figures were taken from the life of late 18th century London. Dwarfs would walk the mansion districts with advertisements on their gaudy hats. These characters were drawn from the series of engravings of grotesque, hunchback dwarves, entitled “Les Gobbi” by Jacques Callot in the late 16th century. This dwarf here is about 6.75 inches tall, 3.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep. He is wearing the characteristic gigantic hat. The figurine is in good condition with three small chips to the hat rim mostly underneath it, his cane was broken in pieces and repaired and there is some paint flaking here and there but none really ever bothered me! He is only marked with a red mark underneath I can't quite figure out. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
