Pearlware Chicken Figurine

This is a fun miniature pearlware figurine of a chicken made in the Staffordshire region in the early 19th century or possibly even a touch earlier into the very late 18th century. A rare piece to find and I ahve not seen one in this dark colored version before which I really like. The bird is standing on a little base and is superbly modeled and hand painted. The figurine is in great condition with a minor rough spot to the tip of the feathers on one side and the comb got squished during the firing a bit - looks like something stuck to it but it displays superbly and looks wonderful. There isa bit of residue on the tail in the pics but I washed that off now as I didn't realize it was there until I saw it in the pictures. The figure is marked udnerneath which is very unusual. Looks to be a black 56 as a painter's mark and an impressed letter F or E as shown. The piece is 3.125 inches tall, 2.375 inches from beak to tail and 1.5 inches wide. A really fun piece to look at! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
