Bilston Battersea Scenic Box

This is a superb pill or snuff box made in England around 1780. Probably in the Bilston area of Southern Staffordshire. They are famous for their enamel boxes, etc. This piece has a nicely handpainted lady portrait on the top lid while the inside is white and the bottom piece a nice dark blue. The portrait is really quite nice! The box is in superb condition much better than almost all the ones I ahve owned or seen. There are two scratches on the lid but they are in places where they blend in well. The metal hinges have oxidizied but work perfectly and there is a bit of the blue color that ran into the white inside but other wise it is perfect - no chips nor cracks! The lid closes nicely but it doesn't hold if you turn the box over it opens up on its own which I find no big deal and is easily fixable if need be. The box is just over 1 inch tall and 1.75 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $299
