Seger Lidded Vase

This is a lidded vase, a ginger jar or just a large tea caddy made by Seger around 1900. It is superbly handpainted with panels showing historism revival type scenes alternating with a brownish ground panel painted in gold with flowers painted using raised enamels. The panels go inwards a tiny bit as they meet making a shape that is much nicer. This type of shape originated in Asia and was used by KPM for quite a while already. These types of colors were the ones made possible by Seger's experiments with new colors and porcelain that was able to be fired at lower temperatures. The raised parts look liked jewels! The lid has the same alternating panels as well. Marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter with SgrP mark as well as an incised mark and the lid has the painters signature inside of Fr. in black. The jar is 7.5 inches tall with the lid and 4 inches in diameter. The jar and lid are in perfect condition but one of the brownish panels has a flaw in the brown color where it is not as thick as the rest of the area. Doesn't take away from the piece at all.
